Building a PaperCastle

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Our good friends Julie and Marcie, the artistic (and literal) sisters of Paper Castle, are keeping busy this summer.

Here is a listing of activities they shared with me, that I am now sharing with you. If you can make it to any of these events, please do, and be sure to wish them well.

“STEEPS - our Peru art and books will be on display (and for sale) at the STEEPS TEA HOUSE on Whyte Ave (11116-82 Ave) for the month of June, so stop by, grab a cup of tea, and ponder.

NORTH COUNTRY FAIR - for any of you fine folk who like folk music, or music festivals in general, we will be vending at the North Country Fair June 20 - 22 up near the massive metropolis of Driftpile Alberta… see http://www.lslncca.ca/current for more info.

THE PORTAL GALLERY - Marcie’s art will be showcased at the Portal Gallery (9414 - 91) from August 9 to September 12th - mark your calendars for TUESDAY, AUGUST 12th when Marcie will be having her opening night reception for that show! Wooooohoooo!

We will unfortunately not be at the Art Walk (July 11 - 13) this summer due to an out-of-town wedding that we are attending that weekend - but still go and check out all our friends’ art! There’s always fantastic art to be found that weekend.

Visit us at www.papercastle.ca to see any updated and fun information!!”

Growing Vision art showI have just posted the photos from the Growing Vision Arts Show. Thanks to Jared, Brenda and the crew at City Centre Church for putting on another great event. If only my kids could have appreciated it as much as I did, I may have stayed longer.

PROJECTIONS at the Art Gallery of Alberta

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008
April 5, 2008toJune 8, 2008

I had the great pleasure of taking in the current featured exhibit at the Art Gallery of Alberta last week. Having not seen a whole lot of projection and video work, this exhibit was a bit mind-blowing.

Taking over much of the Gallery space, the work plays with light and image, and how the original images interact with the surfaces they are projected upon. It also begs the question of what we project onto the works as we view them.

In fact, I’d say most of the works have that element to them - they are very open to interpretation rather than being didactic or directive. They present image and light for us to consider and I think the artists expect the main impact to come from our own projections, rather than the “projections” they’ve created for us. (more…)

Art in the Christian Tradition - an Archive

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

http://lib11.library.vanderbilt.edu/diglib/ACT-search.pl

I was just sent a link to vast archive of “Art in the Christian Tradition” at the Jean and Alexander Heard Library. The art is mainly (if not all) classical and it is catalogued and searchable by keyword, scripture and more. It is free to use for educational and non-profit/religious purposes.

Go ahead and have a browse. Perhaps there is something you can use for an upcoming project?

Current Exhibitions - MOBIA (Museum Of Biblical Art) - New York City

MOBIA logoI stumbled on this gallery/museum online a few weeks back and thought it would be a nice piece to share here. Some very excellent Biblical art on display. I don’t know about you, but I love seeing original, well executed interpretations of the Biblical story. There are so many different facets when we hold it up at different angles under different shades and colors of light.

Just one more reason to go to NYC!
